Experience
Background: Kate originally completed my Degree in English Language and Literature at the University of Liverpool before going on to study for my Graduate Diploma in Law at BPP Law School and then completing the Legal Practice Course at Leeds Metropolitan University.
She has been a Law Society accredited Senior Immigration Caseworker since 2010 and has worked on some notable cases including representing the first two appellants in the Libyan Country Guidance case; AT and Others (Article 15c; risk categories) Libya CG [2014] UKUT 00318 (IAC) and also representing AS in the reported case of AS (Afghanistan) v Secretary of State for the Home Department [2013] EWCA Civ 1469, which established that the Immigration Tribunal could depart from the findings of the Home Office Conclusive Grounds decision, in human trafficking cases, and make its own findings as to whether the Appellant was a victim of trafficking.
Expertise: Kate has particular expertise in Asylum cases as well as in appeals, Judicial Review applications and Human Rights applications based on Private and Family Life. She also regularly represents refugee’s in applications to bring over their parents and minor siblings.
In addition to this Kate has built up a large following of clients seeking assistance with initial immigration applications for British Citizenship, Entry clearance and applications for settlement.
Kate has previously delivered training for ILPA on Adult Dependent Relative Applications as well as delivering bespoke training for local charities in the Greater Manchester Area. She is a volunteer adviser for the Legal Help Clinic run by Manchester University and for refugee support charity MRSN in Manchester.
Her problem solving skills and ability to find novel legal points to argue make her a popular choice with clients in the Greater Manchester area and beyond.
